Online UPS
An Online UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) is a type of power backup system that provides continuous and reliable power to connected devices or equipment, even in the event of power outages or fluctuations. Unlike other types of UPS systems, an Online UPS constantly draws power from its battery and relies on the utility power to keep the battery charged.
In an Online UPS, incoming AC power is converted to DC power through a rectifier and charges the battery. The DC power is then converted back to AC power through an inverter, which supplies a stable and clean power output to the connected devices. This continuous conversion process ensures a seamless power supply, eliminating any disruptions or voltage fluctuations that may occur in the utility power.
They offer several advantages, including:
- One of the key advantages of an Online UPS is its ability to provide instantaneous backup power during blackouts or brownouts. The transition from utility power to battery power is seamless and immediate, ensuring that critical systems and equipment remain operational without any interruption.
- This is particularly important for sensitive electronics, data centers, servers, medical equipment, and other applications where even a brief loss of power can have severe consequences.
- Additionally, an Online UPS offers protection against various power quality issues, such as voltage spikes, surges, harmonic distortions, and frequency variations. The constant battery backup and the isolation provided by the inverter ensure that the connected devices receive a stable and clean power supply, safeguarding them from potential damage or data loss.
